Suzan Harjo

As the President of the Morning Star Institute, a Native American rights organization based in Washington, D.C., Ms. Harjo, a well-known Cheyenne and Muscogee poet, writer, and policy advocate, was named by President Jimmy Carter as a congressional laison for Indian Affairs, and she subsequently served as the Executive Director of the National Congress of American Indians.  Today, she is the curator of the Smithsonian's exhibit in progress, Indian Treaties: Great Nations in their Own Words.
