1778 - France enters war on side of colonists

Colonists ratify the Declaration of Independence

     The Americans are joined in their War for independence by England's arch nemisis, France, which will prove to be a decisive turning point favoring the rebels.

   Marquis de Lafayette became a close friend and confident of General George Washington, and played a pivotal role in helping the Continental Army beat the troops led by General Cornwallis at Yorktown, the decisive battle in the Americans War of Independence.
