The long festering resentments between the tribes and the states has been aggravated by white politicians who have allowed the general public to forget that the United States practically stole everything, including the lands of the Indians, from coast to coast.

         The legendary 20th century Crow leader and self-taught lawyer who became the pre-eminent native defender of treaty rights.  Yellowtail, who led his people into the modern era, was also a co-founder and president of the National Congress of American Indians.
